"Needy" by Jack Conman: A Single Review

Jack conman who formally originated in Hull, now biased in Manchester has been on my radar for years and has never failed to disappoint with his meaning full lyrics and delicate yet catchy guitar riffs. Jack has progressed from the simple delicacy of soulful sound of music to a full band sound. From listening to an old acoustic classic of “Oxytocin” (2018) to a full band sound “come back in the room” (2021) With the music being written by Conman himself with the small helping hand of producing with the close people around him. Jack Conman truly shows thought care and determination through his music that he releases to the public.  Not only this he has shown a constant passion to the content he writes and this is something that Jack Conman has carried with him throughout his years of song writing. Jack has made his music both personal and relatable.

With Conman recently releasing a new single “Needy” it has for sure caught my attention with its simplicity of the acoustic dynamics and chords to the build-up in the chorus of a soft full band. Needy has the perfect build up to the song almost as if it was like a story that would be building up in a book. Despite the song being about wanting to be alone and with people being too needy, the song still holds a joyful vibe to the whole composition of the song.

I can proudly admit I have defiantly had this song on repeat from the first time that I listened to it and it is defiantly a song that will make its way to my 2023 local highlights playlist!

Needy was released 24thNovember 2023 and Jack Conman doesn’t plan to stop here with releases expect 2024 to be full of plenty Jack Conman songs. I for sure are excited and I know I won’t be disappointed, and this is for sure something that you need to keep an eye out for.

I had the absolute pleasure of  being able to talk to Jack about the process of how the song “Needy” was created as well as this we also touched upon how it links with his music that was already released prior to “Needy”.

In your words what is the song “Needy” about?

In your words what is the song “Needy” about?

“It’s about attachment issues and being irritated with people wanting to be around you but then being upset when you’re on your own. It’s basically a song about realising that you need to be yourself”.

What where your thoughts when creating the song “Needy”?

“It was a thought process I had when I’d be like “god whys everyone so needy, I just wanna be on my own” hahahaha

Which in hindsight isn’t a good but I guess the song helped me understand that its not too good to think that way”?

Who was involved in the creating of “Needy”?

“Saam Jafarzadeh helped me produce the song apart from that I wrote it all myself ”.

Do you feel like the song “Needy” explores your older side to music as well as your newer side? How?

“I think I realised after doing “Utopian Bliss EP” that its basically writing about the same issues and topics but just performed in a different way, but I prefer to do the “old style” way and just keep it simple liked I’ve done for my other albums”.

After having the mini online interview, which was done on the 2nd of December 2023, I was able to gather more of an understanding of what the song was about not only in my own perspective from purely just listening to the track, but I was able to have a small insight of what the song actual meant to the artist and how it made him grow as a person. The way that Jack used the song to review how his views are on things is something that really makes the song defiantly worthwhile both musically and emotionally as well as making a connection with the listeners due to the songs that he has created relatable. I cannot wait to see what his other tracks sound like once they are released in 2024, I’m sure that we won’t be disappointed.
