I had the pleasure of just about making the show at Polar Bear Sesh night on Tuesday 5th March 2024 with the acts of “ Jay” whoms it was there second ever show and was brought to Polar Bear by the Wilberforce music teacher Lewis Paul Marrow. Amelia Quinn who was accompanied by a back band for the first time ( I have been very lucky to work of seen Amelia quite a few times and never once am i disappointed) and the one and only Hull Female icon Yasmin Coe.

Yasmin Coe who is formally from Hull but now lives in Manchester has come a long way since I first ever saw her live back before Covid In the year 2020 not only has the confidence really shown. Yasmin has really now become her act she is Yasmin Coe and people definitely enjoyed her show last night while her time away at university she has developed not only her music but her confidence.
With Coes first ever headline at The Sesh Polar Bear she really did put on a show with the help of her bands and it was nice to finally see her back in her home town to perform to such a lovely crowd.
Yasmins crowd definitely did reflect her work on how people should feel safe and protected no matter where you are. A respectful but enjoyable crowd packing the room of Polar Bear music club.

Female Icon Yasmin Coe currently has a new song out as part of her rebrand as “Yasmin Coe” called “promise not to care” and her very first feature on BBC radio 1 with the song “Doubt” Yasmin was nominated by the well respected band Yard Act as an up and coming future artist.
Yasmin has well and truly put the work and effort into her music and it is really showing with the achievements she has been making not only this she has been making the effort to make small but content interactions with social media but she also makes the effort with other ways such as in person interactions.
After the show I had a little chat with Yasmin about what she would say to younger generation who would like to do what she does and here is what she said.
" I think that is what I would like younger people to look up to. I write for the younger version of myself. I tell her how amazing she is doing. And that she is allowed to be vulnerable. Her vulnerability and ability to be so open is admirable. I want women to be able to exist in safer spaces when they are going to their first gigs, and I want them to be able to love themselves and realise their strength, if they are unfortunately and unrightfully not afforded this safety."

I also asked her who she feels influenced her and here music
" I take a lot of influence from mainly female artists like wolf Alice, Mitski, Julia Jacklin and Alvvays. I’ve always connected on a deeper level to the lyricism of female artists and I find that they push boundaries and spark more conversations than anyone else "
And finally this is what Yasmin Coe told me what her main message of her music means
" I mainly share the message of looking out women. I’ve been through a lot of hardship in terms of relationships/ situations with men, and i want to build a community network of support. As much as I would prefer for people to not relate to the content of my songs, the harsh reality is many people do. I feel this outlet is strongly needed within the industry in light of how dominated the scene is by men, and how easily they are able to manipulate and control everything. From small scale gigs to industry tycoons."
With big thanks you the whole of Polar Bear and Sesh team for providing hull with free music , a warm place to stay and reasonably priced drinks as well as a great atmosphere every week.
If you haven’t already been to a sesh night this year I would highly recommend you won’t be disappointed.
